MECHANICAL SAMPLING
Hand meets machine in this new exhibition presenting a compelling series of rings from acclaimed contemporary jeweller Phoebe Porter.
Mechanical Sampling explores the interplay between machining processes and traditional jewellery techniques, resulting in a series of strikingly tactile and visually refined rings. In her signature style, Phoebe Porter combines industrial materials like titanium, tantalum, and stainless steel with yellow gold, silver, and faceted gemstones, creating a study of balance, geometry, and form.
Inspired by the aesthetics of vintage precision machinery and geometric abstraction, Phoebe employs processes such as turning, milling, knurling, and anodising to craft rings with textured surfaces and interlocking parts. These pieces invite touch, offering a sensory experience for the wearer.
Using a sampling approach, Phoebe blends old and new materials and techniques, presenting a fresh perspective on contemporary jewellery design. A video created in collaboration with Andrew Sikorski accompanies the exhibition, offering an intimate look at the intricate making processes behind the collection.
Exhibition dates:
