Vena Amoris at e.g.etal
Made for the exhibition Vena Amoris at e.g.etal, Phoebe Porter’s Water and Moonlight Ring was inspired by a poem from Lehua M. Taitano.
Vena Amoris is an exhibition of engagement rings that explore the endless variation of expressions and interpretations of love. Each artists was invited to make one ring, drawing inspiration from the written word and selecting a text that speaks to their individual understanding of love.
Phoebe’s ring was inspired by the line:
"My dress is made of water and invisible feathers dipped in moonlight."
from the poem When The World Falls in Around You or, Vows to My Palestinian Wife on Our Wedding Day by Lehua M. Taitano.
The poem feels deeply resonant for our times: it acknowledges that even as terrible things continue to unfold around us, a wedding allows us to “hover, for a time / in exquisite love.” The sapphire’s shifting depth and watery inclusions echo this idea — love as a suspended, luminous moment held above turbulence. The elevated setting reinforces this sense of hovering or weightlessness, giving form to the ephemeral, transcendent space the poem describes.
